NCAA Division III New England Baseball Regional:

* No. 2 Wheaton College vs. No. 8 Daniel Webster, 1 p.m. — Elimination Game

Mass. College Lax: Wednesday’s Tourney Schedule

Two local squads will be competing for a spot in the NCAA Division III semifinals today as Tufts University will face-off against RIT for the third straight year at 4:30 p.m., while Western New England battles SUNY Cortland at 6 p.m.

The Jumbos earned a spot in the tournament’s quarterfinals after defeating Norwich University in the first round and Stevens Institute in the second round, while the Golden Bears extended their season with wins against Eastern Connecticut State and Nazareth.

Extra Notes: 

* The winner of today’s matches will meet on Sunday, May 19 for a chance to earn a spot in the championship, which will be played on Sunday, May 26 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, the home of the Eagles.

* With a win against RIT, Tufts would advance to their fourth straight semifinal. The Jumbos are 12-4 overall in the tournament, and won the 2010 championship. They were the national runner-up in 2011 and earned a spot in the semis last year.

* Tufts defeated RIT last season in the quarterfinal round, 15-13.

* After defeating Nazareth in the second round last weekend, Western New England improves to 7-5 overall in the tournament. The Golden Bears have appeared in six tournaments since 2002.

The first round of the NCAA Division III tournament commenced this afternoon for a few local squads and below are the outcomes.

The 2013 NCAA Division III Softball tournament will commence this week with 62 teams vying for eight spots in the final bracket. And five of those squads hail from Massachusetts.

Babson College, Bridgewater State, Lesley University, Springfield College and Tufts University each earned spots in the Babson Regional, which begins on Thursday at 10 a.m. All five teams have competed for a national championship, but have never won.

Below is the teams’ history, as well as their first round game.

Babson College – The Beavers make their first appearance since 2006 and are 3-4 overall.

Bridgewater State – The Bears return to the bracket for the first time since 2006. They’re 26-40 overall, and last appearance in the championship in 1994 as they lost to TCNJ.

Lesley University – The Lynx will make their third straight appearance and have never won a tournament tilt.

Springfield College – Similar to the Bears, the Pride return to the tournament for the first time since 2009, and are 5-12 overall.

Tufts University – The Jumbos will make their 13th appearance and will attempt to build off their 29-24 mark.

First Round: Thursday, May 9

* No. 1 Tufts vs. No. 8 Lesley @ 10 a.m.

* No. 4 Springfield vs. No. 5 St. Joe’s of Maine @ noon

* No. 3 Babson vs. No. 6 Bridgewater @ 2 p.m.

The other matchup, which features two non-Massachusetts teams, will take place at 4 p.m. as No. 2 Rowan squares off against No. 7 Husson.

The NCAA released all six brackets (Division I, II and III) this evening for the upcoming men and women’s lacrosse tournaments, which start this week, and below are the squads that earned a spot, along with their first round matchup.

Men’s Division III

Nine lacrosse teams secured automatic bids for the upcoming NCAA tournament, which starts this week and below are the conference tournament champions:

A 10 - UMass Women’s Lax

MASCAC - Bridgewater State Women’s Lax

NECC - Regis Women’s Lax
