Do you care about the NBA 2010 Free Agency?

The NBA Free Agency is all about James (6) and Wade (9)

Every NBA fan is keeping an extra eye on their favorite sports website, various twitter accounts, as well as viewing their friends frequent facebook statuses.

Yet, doesn’t this NBA free agency period seem incredibly overhyped?

Basketball fans knew in November of 2008 that the discussion over this entire free agency class had officially begun.

Questions started to mount and concerns of where exactly would the King (a.k.a. LeBron James) end up once his 2009-2010 season was completed, seemed to be the biggest issue. There were also the inquiries of would Dwayne Wade leave South Beach and what would happen to Chris Bosh, Joe Johnson, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Dirk Nowitzki, along with the other key marquee players?

People…why do we need to make such a big fuss over this entire signing period?

I googled the terms “free agent rumors” or “NBA trades” probably twice on Thursday, July 1, 2010, but when it seemed like there was nothing except the simple reports of numerous visits to Chicago, New York and New Jersey, I then wondered, do we even care about these particular visits?

Do we even care that LeBron is not in Cleveland?

Do we even care that Dwayne Wade is nowhere near a beach in Miami?

Do we even care that Paul Pierce opted out of his player option?

Why sports fans, why… why are we spending all of our time googling these various names or calling various radio programs across the country to vent, but also to hear all the rumors and speculation?

Does this seriously matter to you?

I can imagine that Cleveland fans aren’t getting that good night sleep these days because if LeBron inks a deal in another city, Ohio will never be the same. Yet, that could also be true in Miami, although, Wade has already won an NBA championship. What about Canada, how do they react toward Chris Bosh wanting to leave the Toronto Raptors? The Blue Jays aren’t that good of a professional organization, but nor are the Maple Leafs.

So sports fans or primarily, my basketball friends, why exactly do you care so much about this free agency? Is it that you are just on the LeBron James bandwagon or really want to see your particular team land a top-notch caliber player? Do you personally feel as if you are connected to these players and need to know what their every move is between now and July 8, (which marks the official signing period)?

I want to hear from you fans! Please send me an email, tweet or facebook message about why exactly this particular NBA free agency period is SO important. You can email me at or fine me on twitter @NoontimeSports. I look forward to reading your particular reasons and will respond to everyone’s thoughts or ideas in my next blog.
