On Thursday February 24, 2011, Johnson & Wales University faced off against a conference foe, Albertus Magnus College in the GNAC (Great Northwest Athletic Conference) semi-final men’s basketball tournament game, which promised to be a special one.
The Johnson &Wales’ men’s basketball team is led by junior guard, Lamont Thomas, who averages the most points out of any current college basketball player across the country with (30.4 ppg). Yet, putting aside numbers and statistics, Thomas led the Wildcats to an exciting 12
Playing in front of his friends, family and the entire student body at the Harborside Recreation Center in Providence, Rhode Island, Thomas led his Wildcats to an exciting semi-finals victory, 128-107 over Albertus Magnus College, which put Johnson & Wales in the conference championship two days later. Thomas finished the game with 40-points, as well as shot 11-15 from the field and 18-20 at the free throw line. He also handed out 20-assists and grabbed six rebounds.
Thomas would follow up his impressive performance on Saturday February 26, 2011, with 33-point, seven rebounds and six assists in a win over Saint Joseph’s College during the conference championship. With the win, Johnson & Wales men’s basketball team celebrated like champions, but also, earned a spot in the 2011 NCAA Division III March Madness tournament, which begins Friday March 4, 2011.
