The Bruins are Rockin’ and Rollin’ in Canada

Mark Stuart and the Bruins are undefeated on their current road trip in Canada.

With the Oscars now in the books, perhaps the Boston Bruins should have been nominated for the “Best Road Team in the NHL.” The way they’re playing, they may not want to return to the United States anytime soon.

The Bruins pulled off a weekend sweep in western Canada, beating the Canucks in Vancouver and the Oilers in Edmonton.  In doing so, the Bruins improved to [5-0] on their current six-game road trip, which concludes Tuesday night in Ottawa, a team Boston defeated just ten days ago.

Tim Thomas was stellar between the pipes in Vancouver on Saturday night against the NHL-best Canucks, stopping 27 of 28-shots. He continues to lead the league in goals-against average (1.97) and save percentage (.939).   Vancouver native Milan Lucic enjoyed his return to his hometown.  With 4:38 left in the third period, he scored the game-winner by knocking home the rebound of a Dennis Seidenberg shot.  It was Lucic’s team-leading 27th goal of the season.

Tuukka Rask faced just 17 Edmonton shots on Sunday at Rexall place.  After allowing a goal to Ales Hemsky just over a minute into the game, Rask came up big when he had to.  The Bruins responded with first-period goals by Michael Ryder and Nathan Horton, and Boston never trailed the rest of the way.  The Bruins outshot the Oilers, 40-17.

The Bruins now lead the Canadiens by six points in the Northeast Division.
