The great Bill Russell and the Boston Celtics received some wonderful news on Wednesday, as the city has officially decided to honor the legend with a statue. No information has been released, but for the city and Celtics organization, this is tremendous news.
Russell led the Celtics to 11 NBA titles, as well as became the first African American head coach in the league.
He was awarded the Medal of Freedom this past February by President Barack Obama at the White House. Obama, told reporters, “”I hope that one day in the streets of Boston, children will look up at a statue built not only to Bill Russell the player, but Bill Russell the man.”
