Our trip to the 34th Annual Women’s Boston Beanpot on Tuesday, Jan. 31, begins with a quick look at the Boston University Terriers.
BU Terriers Women’s Hockey:
Hockey East Record: (9-7-0)
Current Streak: BU will enter Tuesday’s clash against Harvard University on a three-game winning streak. The Terriers defeated Boston College, Northeastern and Vermont by a combined score of 15-4.
Last Beanpot Championship: It’s hard to fathom, but the last time BU won the tournament was in 1981. The Terriers defeated both BC and Northeastern en route to hoisting the trophy on the ice. Although, their most recent trip to the title game occurred in 2008 when they lost to Harvard, 3-1.
Biggest Win: Hands down, it has to be defeating the BC Eagles, 6-0 at the Walter Brown Arena. Terriers junior forward Isabel Menard celebrated the victory by registering her 100th career point.
Toughest Loss: On Saturday, Nov. 26, Cornell University pulverized the Terriers, 7-1. Sophomore goaltender Kerrin Sperry was pulled after allowing two goals in a span of 26:20.
Player to Watch: Keep your eye on senior forward Jenn Wakefield, who leads the team with 37 points, (17 goals, 20 assists).
Beanpot Prediction: Anything is possible for this particular Terriers squad. If they can use their momentum from the past three-games, then expect them to experience some success. However, do they have what it takes to tackle Harvard, and possibly Boston College or Northeastern? We’ll see!
