We’re a few hours away from the start of another Boston Red Sox season, and it’s expected to be wacky and wild campaign.

Bobby Valentine is amped about molding the local nine into champions, while various reports confirmed that Josh Beckett has begun contemplating surgery for his right thumb. However, the right-hander seems to be OK these days.

Dustin Pedroia told the Boston Globe on Wednesday, “We’re ready to go, ready to play hard. It’s a long year. We’ll find out what kind of a team we have through the grind of the season.”

And finally, fans are still pondering why “the greatest team” ever assembled finished the final month of the 2011 season with seven wins and 20 losses.
