Mass College Lax: NESCAC & NEWMAC Tournament Recaps

Saturday was a rather busy day for the NESCAC and NEWMAC conferences, as  some squads punched their ticket to the semi-finals or finals, while others watched their season come to an end.

NEWMAC Women’s Lacrosse:

Babson College 24, Wellesley College 12 – The Beavers jumped out to a 5-1 lead, and never looked back, as they punched their ticket to their conference championship for the second consecutive season. Taylor Kralovenec paced Babson with eight goals, while Jameson Spang recorded seven tallies and two assists. Wellesley’s Brit Mscisz led the Blue with six goals.

Springfield College 7, Wheaton College 6 – Michelle Dorsey netted an unassisted strike with 11 seconds remaining in regulation, which lifted Springfield past Wheaton College in Babson Park. Kelly Gallo recorded a hat trick in the win, while goaltender Anne Versprille recorded nine saves. Charlotte DeSantis led the Lyons with three goals and one assist.

NESCAC Men’s Lacrosse:

Tufts 14, Amherst College 10 – Geordie Schafer jumpstarted the Jumbos offense with two tallies, which helped Tufts earn a comfortable, 5-0 lead at 14:06 in the second quarter. The Lord Jeffs stormed back by registering five unanswered strikes before Cole Bailey tallied his second goal of the contest in the fourth, which preserved the victory for Tufts.

NESCAC Women’s Lacrosse:

Middlebury 12, Tufts 8 – Liza Herzog and Michaela Colbert combined for six tallies and one assist, as the Panthers defeated the visiting Jumbos by four goals. Middlebury finished the contest with 24 shots, 17 ground balls, and 14 clears, too. Kerry Eaton paced Tufts with four goals and one assist in the loss.

Amherst 9, Bowdoin College 7 – Despite a back and fourth contest, Amherst managed to pull ahead for good at 9:24 in the second half when Allie Horwitz, (four goals) recorded an unassisted strike, which helped the Lord Jeffs defeat the visiting Polar Bears by two tallies. Amherst ended the match with 18 ground balls, 10 clears and 21 shots.
