A Closer Look At Mike Ahmed (Bourne Braves)
By Brian Willwerth
YARMOUTH, MA – The 2012 Cape Cod Baseball League season is just getting started, and already a Massachusetts native is swinging a hot bat.
Mike Ahmed, of East Longmeadow and attending Holy Cross, is hitting .391 through the first six games with the Bourne Braves. And that’s even with his 0-4, three-strikeout performance on Tuesday against the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, where he started in left field. He had a four-hit game last week against Hyannis, and homered and drove in three runs in the season opener against Harwich. His hot started earned him Player of the Week honors for the first week of the season.
Last month, Holy Cross announced Ahmed would be a co-captain for the Crusaders’ 2013 season, and it’s easy to see why. In his sophomore season, he was named to the first team All-Patriot League. He finished with a .295 average, and led the league in runs scored, hits, home runs, doubles and RBI. He also made 13 appearances on the mound with a 2-1 record.
