We continue our series of team previews for the upcoming season, with a look at the Curry College Colonels of the New England Football Conference (NEFC).
Via e-mail, head coach Skip Bandini told me what he expects from his team in 2012.
* If you’re looking for strength of the Colonels, Bandini says look no further than the defensive line. There are three returning starters: Sam Calley, Timothy O’Brien and Parrish Rogers-Reed. The team captains are also on the defensive side of the ball: linebacker Jason Genece and Rashad Sims in the secondary. Bandini expects them to provide necessary experience to the defense.
* As for the offense, look for Kevin Fruwirth to start at quarterback. Bandini says he is progressing well. The coach also says the Colonels are strong at the receiver and running back position. He says Gil Parsons is an outstanding offensive tackle, too.
* Curry is coming off a 5-5 season in 2011 (3-4 in the Boyd Division). The Colonels have been picked to finish fifth in the division this year. Their season opener is Saturday, September 1st at home against WPI.
