As noted by our friends from the WPI athletic department — senior defensive end Joe Everett earned a few awards this past week for his monstrous performance on the gridiron against Worcester State.

Everett, who was mentioned on our Weekly Honor Roll this past Monday, was named the Liberty League’s Defensive Player of the Week, as well as a member of the team of the week, too.

Worcester, MA — After his performance on the gridiron on Saturday, WPI senior football player Joe Everett (Columbia, CT) has been honored by several conference and organizations.  The senior took home Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week honors as well as being named to the Team of the Week and to the Noontime Sports Mass. College Football Weekly Honor Roll.

Everett had a big day for WPI registering a game-best 13 tackles, including an eye-popping seven for loss in the Engineers 28-21 loss to city rival Worcester State. His seven stops included a sack and totaled 26 yards in all. The senior, who had 10 solo and three assisted tackles, also forced a fumble.

No stranger to awards, Everett was named a first team Capital One-CoSIDA Academic All-District I selection as a junior in 2011.

WPI is 1-1 on the season and head to Norwich on Saturday at 2pm to face the Cadets.  It will be the 62nd all-time meeting between the two squads but the first in nearly a decade.
