BURRILLVILLE, R.I – Worcester State University captured its first Worcester City Shootout Tournament Championship with a 4-3 victory against Becker College at June Rockwell Levy Rink.
Cody Brier and Nathan Stanley each netted one goal during the final frame, which secured the victory.
The Ice Hawks attempted to erase the two-goal deficit, but one goal by Branden Parkhouse at 12:05 didn’t spark a comeback.
Worcester State finished the game 3-of-4 on the power play, while Becker College netted one goal with an extra skater.
Parkhouse netted his first strike at 13:08 in the opening period before Stephen Rock evened the score at 1. Becker College jumped ahead in the second with a goal from Korby Anderson, which was answered by Worcester State’s Joe White at 18:39.
The Lancers offense went to work during the final frame and netted two goals, which provided them with a lead they never relinquished.
Worcester State’s Salvatore Tecci saved 22 shots, while Becker College’s Greg Hussey deflected 21 shots.
With the win, the Lancers improve to 2-6, while the Ice Hawks fall to 3-4.
