Mass. College Hoops: WPI Ranks 18th In Poll

According to the latest poll, WPI’s men’s basketball team leaped one spot to no. 18. The Engineers were previously the 19th best team in the country, but following their recent victories against Fitchburg State and Rhode Island College, WPI is now a spot higher.

The Engineers did not begin the season on the website’s poll, but did receive votes. They debuted during the week of December 9 (third week of the season) and haven’t departed since.

Excluding victories against Fitchburg and Rhode Island, the Engineers have also defeated Becker College, Curry College, Husson College and Salem State. They’ll face two more non-conference foes (Colby-Sawyer on Dec. 30 and St. Joe’s (Maine) on Jan. 2) before they embark on NEWMAC (New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference) play against Babson College on January 5.

Other Notes: The two other Massachusetts schools that earned spots this week were Amherst College and Williams College. Amherst dropped from 22 to 25, while Williams re-emerged for the second time this season at 24.
