It has been an exciting first week of 2013, especially in college sports. Last night, a variety of the local schools commenced the New Year with a win, while others earned spots in the record book.
Here are a few links and highlights from last night’s slate:
* The Tufts University Jumbos women’s basketball team earned their 12th consecutive victory of the season by defeating Williams College in Medford, 61-57. Tufts’ 12 wins matches one of their best starts in program history, which dates back to the 2007-08 season.
* Against Colby College, Geneva Lloyd eclipsed 100 career points with her two goals and four assists in Amherst College’s, 10-1 win in Maine. According to Friday’s press release, Lloyd has recorded 38 goals and 64 assists in 92 games with the Lord Jeffs.
* Seven skaters for Harvard’s women’s hockey team netted at least one goal in the Crimson’s 9-0 route against Union College. Harvard fired 42 shots on the Union cage, and won 26 of 46 face-offs, too.
* Despite being apart of his team’s setback to Amherst, Wesleyan University senior Mike Callaghan became the program’s 20th member to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Callaghan netted a team-high 19 points against the Lord Jeffs, and now has 1,008 points.
