Mass. College Hoops: WACBA Rookies & Players Of The Week/Honor Roll

Now that 2013 has officially begun, it is time to resume our weekly WACBA reporting. And without further ado, here is this week’s Rookies of the Week, Players of the Week and Honor Roll.

Rookies of the Week

Men’s Basketball: Zach Karalis (WPI/Fr./ Guard) – The freshman from North Andover made an impact in the Engineers past three games, as he reached double figures in all three contests. Karalis came off the bench against Colby-Sawyer and netted a game-best 14 points, while netting 11 points against St. Joe’s (Maine) and Babson College.

Women’s Basketball: Molly Hourigan (Holy Cross/Fr./Center) – The New York native scored a career-best 10 points in the Crusaders win against Dartmouth, as well as recorded career-highs in minutes played (19), steals (2) and assists (2).

Players of the Week

Men’s Basketball: Marco Coppola (WPI/Soph./Guard) – The Watertown native enjoyed a successful week with the Engineers by averaging 12.7 points per game and sinking 53.1% from the field. Against Babson, he netted a game-best 18 points.

Women’s Basketball: Hayley Zophin (Nichols College/Sr./Forward) – Against Wentworth Institute of Technology last weekend, the Framingham native recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds in a win against the Leopards.

Honor Roll

Amy Lepley (Holy Cross/Sr./Forward) – The Norfolk native recorded her eighth double-double of her career, as she helped the Crusaders defeat Dartmouth by providing 10 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals. Also, Lepley became the 28th Crusader and 75th player in the Patriot League to score 1,000 points.

Ryan Sheehan (Nichols College/Jr./Forward) – Against Westfield State, the junior from North Attleboro netted 39 points in the Bison’s 88-74 victory. He drained 7-of-10 triples and tallied seven rebounds. Three days later, he recorded 13 points in a loss to Wentworth.

Shannen El-Qasem (Worcester State/Soph./Forward) – The Rutland native finished the week averaging 11.8 points per game and 5.0 rebounds. She scored 17 points and recorded seven rebounds in the Lancers win against Framingham State and 14 points in a setback to Chapman.

Robert Hunter (Worcester State/Jr./Forward) – The junior concluded the week averaging 17 points per game and 9.5 rebounds. Hunter was clearly a factor against Framingham State, as he finished the contest with 23 points and 11 boards.

Alex Lopez (Worcester State/Fr./Guard) – The Springfield native make an impact on a 1-1 week for the Lancers by averaging 13.5 points per game, 6.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds. Lopez scored a game-best 18 points against Albertus Magnus, while tallying nine points, 10 assists and five boards against Framingham State.

Theresa Logan (WPI/Sr./Forward) – Against Coast Guard last Saturday, the Southboro native recorded a team-high 18 points and recorded six boards (five on defense), while also tallying one block, one steal and one assist in the Engineers victory against the Bears.
