Mass. College Hoops: Sunday Afternoon Roundup

There were a few Sunday matinee basketball games that occurred during the Boston Celtics-Miami Heat matchup, and below are their summaries:

Men’s Basketball:

UMass 70, Richmond 65: The Minutemen received 18 points from Chaz Williams and 12 points from Cady Lalanne, as UMass defeated their A-10 foe by five points at the Mullins Center. UMass improves to 13-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

Rochester 69, Brandeis 65: Despite owning an eight-point advantage in the second half, Rochester rallied to defeat the visiting Judges. With the loss, the Judges fall to 14-4 overall, 5-2 in the University Athletic Association. Gabriel Morton and Ben Bartoldus netted 21 points, respectively, while Youri Dascy tallied 14 points. Brandeis won the battle of the boards, 31-27, and finished with six combined steals.

Women’s Basketball:

Dayton 83, UMass 44: Dayton held UMass to 17 first half points and went onto collect their 17th win of the season. Jasmine Harris led UMass with a team-high eight points.

Duke 80, Boston College 56: The Blue Devils jumped out to a 49-33 lead at the break and never looked back, as they handed the Eagles their sixth conference setback. Kristen Doherty paced Boston College with 14 points, while Kerri Shields contributed 13 points.

Rochester 72, Brandeis 58: The Judges dropped their sixth consecutive contest, as the Yellow Jackets ballooned an eight-point advantage at intermission into a 14 point victory. Kasey Dean led the squad from Waltham with 14, while Hannah Cain and Janelle Rodriguez each netted 12 points.
