BOSTON, MA – Boston College earned a spot in the Boston Beanpot championship for the fourth consecutive year, as the Eagles soared past Harvard University, 4-1 at the TD Garden.
Steven Whitney clinched the victory with his 17th strike of the season at 14:58 in the third, while Quinn Smith netted two goals and Michael Matheson scored the games only power play goal.
Harvard trailed, 3-0 entering the final session, but made it a two-goal contest with a strike from Danny Biega at 9:17, which happened to be his first of the season. The Crimson comeback was dashed, though, as Whitney rifled a shot past Raphael Girard (42 saves) to seal the victory.
With the win, BC will face-off against Northeastern University in the title game next Monday, while Harvard will square off against Boston University in the consolation match.
