NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.—For the seventh time this season, freshman forward Olivia Murphy (Canton, Mass.) has been named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning.
With the honor, Murphy moves past teammate Kirsten Morrison (North Reading, Mass.) for the most Rookie of the Week awards in program history.
The Canton, Massachusetts native led UMB to a 1-1 week by averaging 13.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, three steals and two blocks per game, while committing just two turnover in 82 minutes of action.
In Monday’s win over Plymouth State, she finished with eight points, eight rebounds and three blocks in just 21 minutes of action in the blowout win.
Wednesday night, Murphy finished with a team-high 18 points and added six rebounds and five steals, in a closely contested 65-58 loss at UMass Dartmouth.
In the Beacons regular-season finale Saturday, she came off the bench for the first time all season and poured in a team-high 14 points and six rebounds.
Murphy has not just been the top rookie in the conference but also one of the top players overall. She finishes the regular season third in scoring at 14.3 points per game and leads the conference with 10 rebounds per game. Murphy joins UMass Boston men’s basketball player Rahshjeem Benson (Boston, Mass.) as the only two players in the conference to finish the season averaging a double-double.
