The majority of the period was controlled by the Yellow Jackets though as the visitors outshot Assumption by a 12-6 margin in the quarter. The Hounds quickly tied things up in the second as the first of Martina’s three goals came with 11:57 left in the half. Senior Connor MacNeil (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) tied the game at 3-3, but that was short-lived as the Yellow Jackets scored twice in just over a minute to regain control at 5-3. The Hounds inched closer in the final minutes of the half as sophomore Garrett Smith (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) took a pass from sophomore Tim Casey (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) for his 17th goal of the season and a 5-4 halftime score.

After Spano extended the lead back to 6-4, the Hounds put together a three-goal scoring run and eventually took the lead at 7-6 with 10:20 left in the third on the second goal of the game from MacNeil. Spano tied the game for a final time with three minutes left in the third before Martina put Assumption ahead to stay on a diving goal with 50 seconds remaining in the period.

Sophomore Peter Gersbeck (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) scored twice in the first four minutes of the final quarter to extend the lead to 10-7 as the Hounds came away with the eventual 10-8 win. Spano scored his fifth and final goal of the game with 1:39 left to account for the final scoring margin.
