EASTON, Mass. – No. 12 Bentley University rallied from 13-7 down to pull within 13-10 late against No. 11 Stonehill, but could not complete the comeback as the Skyhawks emerged victorious in a matchup of top Northeast-10 women’s lacrosse teams.
After a Heather Sullivan goal gave Stonehill a 13-7 lead with 13:00 minutes left in the game, Bentley scored three unanswered to pull within 13-10 with 46 seconds left after a goal by freshman Erin O’Connor (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow).
The first two goals of the run came just 20 seconds apart, starting with Cori Geiger’s (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) goal at the 4:23 mark. That followed a goal by senior Taylor Bastien (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown), her second of the game.
Bentley trailed 8-4 at halftime and made it 8-6 with the first two goals of the half, and 9-7 with 18:13 left in the half, but Stonehill went on a 4-0 run over the next five minutes to lead 13-7.
Bentley drops to 4-2 on the season in the NE-10 and Stonehill improves to 7-2. Bentley is back in action on Thursday night against Saint Anselm.
