Mass. College Hoops: Friday Night Roundup

Here are last night’s scores and summaries from an exciting first evening of the college basketball season.

Men’s Basketball

Providence College 82, Boston College 78 (OT): Olivier Hanlan scored 23 points, Ryan Anderson netted 21 points, but that wasn’t enough for the Eagles to beat the Friars in Providence. BC led at halftime, 31-27, but Providence outscored the visitors in the second session, 43-39, and 12-8 in overtime.

Bentley 98, Concordia (N.Y.) 69: Tyler McFarland scored a career-best 34 points, while Jasper Grassa added 17 points, three rebounds and three assists as the Falcons cruised to their first win of the season.

Merrimack 84, Wilmington (Del.) 71: The Warriors outscored the visitors, 57-40 in the second half to secure their first win of the season. Gelvis Solano led Merrimack with 21 points and six steals.

Women’s Basketball

Northeastern 73, Boston University 62: BU’s Daniel Callahan registered a career-high 27 points, which wasn’t enough to help the Terriers top the Huskies. NU’s A’lece Mark led all players with 28 points.

DePaul 99, Harvard 75: The Blue Demons raced out to 61-36 lead and never looked back as DePaul handed Harvard its first loss of the season. Erin McDonnell finished with 13 points, while Melissa Mullins registered eight points and nine boards (eight defensive rebounds).  

Holy Cross 84, Dartmouth 59: Raquel Scott scored a career-best 22 points to lead the Crusaders to their first win of the season. Scott also had seven rebounds and five assists, while Brisje Malone added 16 points, six assists and three rebounds.
