Mass. College Football: Assumption Places 11 On NE-10 Football All-Conference Teams

Courtesy of the Assumption College sports information department, here’s this afternoon’s release about 11 football players that earned sports on the 2013 Northeast-10 Conference Football All-Conference Teams:

Easton, Mass. (November 20) — The Northeast-10 Conference has announced the 2013 Football All-Conference Teams as 11 members of the Assumption College football team have earned All-Conference recognition on either the First or Second Teams. Leading the way is junior defensive end Derrick Mann (Sharon, Mass./Sharon), who was named as the league’s Defensive Lineman of the Year.

Mann, a First Team All-Conference selection as well, was one of six Hounds to earn a spot on the First Team. Tied for the team lead in interceptions with three, Mann becomes the first Assumption player to earn Defensive Lineman of the Year honors. He led the team with 11 tackles for loss for a total of 53 yards, including 5.5 sacks for 39 yards that tied him for the team lead in that category. In addition to the three picks, he added one pass breakup and two quarterback hurries. Mann ranks fifth in the league in tackles for loss and tied for second in total sacks.

Senior All-American tight end Scott Simonson (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South) earned First Team All-Conference honors for the first time after leading the Hounds with 39 receptions for 604 yards and five touchdowns. He averaged 54.9 yards per game and 15.5 yards per reception, including a season-long of 56 yards. A Second Team All-American selection and an All-Region honoree in 2012, Simonson was named as a Preseason All-American this season by a number of publications and media outlets. He has also attracted substantial NFL interest from nearly every team in the league throughout the season.

Senior linebacker Matt Colangelo (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell) earned First Team honors for the first time in his career after finishing third on the team with 69 total tackles. He added 5.5 tackles for loss for 14 yards, two interceptions, one pass breakup, three quarterback hurries and one fumble recovery.

Senior defensive back Mike Bates (Holden, Mass./Wachusett) capped off his career with his third All-Conference honor and second as a First Team honoree. Ranking fourth in the league at 8.7 tackles per game, Bates finished the season with a team-best 96 tackles while tying for the team lead in sacks with 5.5 as a defensive back. He added eight tackles for loss of 35 yards, 5.5 sacks for 28 yards and three interceptions for 26 yards. He ranked second on the team in pass breakups with six, was tied for the team lead in quarterback hurries with five and led the team with two forced fumbles.

Senior defensive lineman Khalid Pitts (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) has been named to the First Team for the first time as he picks up All-Conference honors for the third straight season. Pitts posted 49 total tackles, including 27 solo stops, to go along with 10.5 tackles for loss to rank second on the team in that category. He also added a half sack and was tied for the team lead with five quarterback hurries.

Senior kicker Tad Beuchert (Danvers, Mass./St. John’s Prep) is a First Team selection this season after leading the league in field goals made with 15 and in points scored among kickers with 79 in 11 games. A Second Team All-Conference honoree in 2012, Beuchert earned a pair of Northeast-10 Special Teams Player of the Week awards this season. Connecting on four field goals of 40 yards or better, Beuchert nailed a 48-yard field goal at Saint Anselm in mid-October that was the longest in the Northeast-10 this season.

Senior running back Matt Pedone (Holden, Mass./Wachusett) earns All-Conference honors for the second time in his career as he was named to the Second Team. Posting 917 yards on 176 rushing attempts, he ranked second in the league at 91.7 yards per game to go along with six rushing touchdowns on the season. In a road win at LIU Post in the regular-season finale, Pedone rushed for a career-high 209 yards, which was the single-game high in the Northeast-10 this season.

Senior Mike Stuppiello (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) picks up Second Team honors as he is an All-Conference selection for the second straight season. Starting all 11 games, he finished the season with 25 total tackles, six tackles for loss for 31 yards, four sacks for 27 yards and four quarterback hurries. He also had a 14-yard fumble recovery in a road win at eventual league champion American International, as well as a team-best two blocked kicks.

Senior Emanuel Riggins (Dorchester, Mass./Boston College HS) was named to the Second Team after posting 22 tackles as he earns All-Conference honors for the first time. He added 2.5 tackles for loss for eight yards, one sack, one pass breakup and two quarterback hurries.

Senior safety Erik Abramson (Deerfield, Mass./Frontier Regional) was selected to the All-Conference Second Team as he also earned league recognition for the first time in his career this season. He ranked second on the team in total tackles with 75, including 41 solo stops. Abramson added 3.5 tackles for loss, a half sack, one interception, three pass breakups, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble.

Senior offensive lineman Jack Dustin (Foxboro, Mass./Xaverian) was chosen as a member of the Second Team as well, earning All-Conference honors for the first time. Dustin started all 11 games at left guard for the Hounds in 2013 as the team averaged 152.7 yards on the ground and 332 yards of total offense per contest.

Assumption finished the year at 6-5 overall and 6-3 in Northeast-10 play. The Hounds were picked eighth in the Northeast-10 Preseason Coaches Poll before posting a fourth-place finish in the end behind a 5-0 mark on the road in regular-season league action.
