Mass. College Hoops: UMass Boston’s Murphy Earns First Little East Conference Player Of The Week Award

Courtesy of the UMass Boston sports information department, here’s today’s release about women’s basketball sophomore forward Olivia Murphy, who earned her first Little East Conference Player of the Week award:

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.—For the first time in her career, sophomore Olivia Murphy (Canton, Mass.) has been named the Little East Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning.

The sophomore forward poured in a season-high 26 points and 16 rebounds to fuel women’s basketball’s 59-47 win over Fitchburg State University in the Beacons lone game of the week.

Murphy, the reigning Little East Conference Rookie of the Year, knocked down 10-of-26 shots from the field, while hitting 6-of-8 free throws. She also collected a team-high six offensive rebounds, in addition to two steals and one assist in 36 minutes of action.

In four games this season, Murphy is tied for the Little East lead in scoring at 17.8 points per game and paces the LEC with her 12.2 rebounds per game.

UMass Boston will return to action Tuesday night for their home opener, when the Beacons host Mount Ida College at 5:30 p.m.
