Courtesy of the Babson College sports information department, here’s this afternoon’s release about first-year Joey Flannery, who was named this week’s New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week:
BOSTON, Mass.—After averaging 26.7 points and 6.7 rebounds while helping the Babson College men’s basketball team to three wins, including the program’s first New England Big 4 Challenge title, first-year Joey Flannery (Acton, Mass.) was selected as the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men’s basketball Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Flannery had a tremendous week for the Green and White, scoring in double figures three times while shooting 81.2 percent (26-for-32) from the floor and 100 percent (25-for-25) from the free throw line. He netted 19 points and grabbed eight boards in an 82-43 victory over Newbury on Wednesday night, and followed it up with a career-high 31 points on 11-for-14 shooting in Saturday’s 78-47 rout of Brandeis.
The first-year forward then capped his week by earning Big 4 Challenge Most Valuable Player honors after pouring in a game-high 30 points and grabbing seven rebounds in Sunday’s 101-87 victory over Salem State in the tournament championship game. In two games over the weekend, Flannery went 21-for-26 from the floor and 16-for-16 from the free throw line.
Flannery is averaging a team-high 18.9 points and 5.3 rebounds, and is shooting 63.9 percent from the field and 92.1 percent at the free throw line on the year. The Beavers (7-1) will close out the semester by hosting defending national champion Amherst on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
