Mass. College Hockey: Thursday Roundup

There were a few hockey contests that occurred this afternoon and evening, and below are their outcomes and summaries.

Men’s Ice Hockey:

Colby 5, Wentworth 3: Behind three third period goals, the Mules defeated the Leopards and earned a spot in tomorrow’s championship tilt against Babson in the Salem State/Babson Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament. Wentworth will play Salem State in the consolation match. Mike Cox, Kevin Crowe and Jordan Bourgonje each netted one goal for Wentworth, while Alex Peck turned away 20 of 23 shots.

Babson 4, Salem State 1: Shayne Anderson and Troy Starrett combined for two goals and three assists in their return to the line up as the Beavers defeated the Vikings in the opening round of the Salem State/Babson Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament. John Needham located the back of the net for Salem State on a power play during the second period, his fifth tally of the season.

Women’s Ice Hockey:

UMass Boston 4, Stevenson 3: Samantha Fallon netted the game-winner at 13:51 in the final frame, which snapped a 3-3 tie and provided the Beacons with their first win of 2014. Alyssa Sullivan finished the non-conference tilt with three points (one goal, two assists), while Alexandra Karlis and Katie Loiselle each lit the lamp for UMass Boston.

Postponements:

* Harvard vs. Northeastern (Women’s Ice Hockey), which was scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. face-off at Fenway Park, was re-scheduled for Saturday, January 4 at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center in Cambridge. The time of the contest hasn’t been announced as of this evening.
