Mass. College Football: Assumption’s Pitts, Simonson Named To Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America Teams

Courtesy of the Assumption College sports information department, here’s this afternoon’s release about Khalid Pitts and Scott Simonson, two seniors that were named to the 2013 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America Teams: 

Pittsburg, Kan. (January 28) — Assumption College football seniors Khalid Pitts (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) and Scott Simonson (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South) have been named to the 2013 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America Teams. Pitts was a Third Team selection, while Simonson was named as an Honorable Mention All-American.

Pitts, who earns All-American honors for the first time in his career, was a Don Hansen Super Region One First Team All-Region selection and a Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team honoree. A two-time Worcester Area Football First Team All-Star, Pitts posted 49 total tackles, including 27 solo stops. He also ranked second on the team in tackles for loss with 10.5 while tying for the team lead with five quarterback hurries.

Simonson, a two-time First Team Daktronics All-Region selection and a Don Hansen Super Region One First Team All-Region honoree, earns All-American honors for the second consecutive season. Leading the Hounds with 39 receptions for 604 yards and five touchdowns, Simonson was a Northeast-10 First Team All-Conference selection and was named to the Worcester Area Football All-Star First Team. A Second Team All-American in 2012, Simonson has drawn interest from nearly every National Football League (NFL) team and has participated in a pair of postseason All-Star games.
