36th Women’s Boston Beanpot: Boston College Tops Northeastern, 3-0
The 36th Women’s Boston Beanpot tournament concluded this evening with Boston College defeating Northeastern University, 3-0, at Kelley Rink in Chestnut Hill.
BC, which hadn’t won the tournament since defeating Harvard 3-1 in 2011, earned its fifth title in program history. The win also avenged last year’s 4-3 setback to Northeastern.
Taylor Wasylk provided the Eagles with the lead for good when she netted her 10th goal of the season at 16:02 in the first period. BC’s lead would increase to 3-0 in the third, thanks to power play strikes by Meagan Mangene and Melissa Bizzari.
BC’s Corinne Boyles improved to 18-5-2 between the pipes as she stopped 25 shots, including 12 during the final frame, while Andie Anastos finished the contest with two assists.
Northeastern netminder Chloe Desjardins deflected 27 of 30 shots, while Katie MacSorley fired eight shots on net.
BC and Northeastern will each return to action on Saturday, February 15 as the Eagles travel to Maine for a 1 p.m. face-off, while the Huskies host Connecticut for a 2 p.m. face-off.
