Mass. College Hoops: Locals Earn Spots In Women’s NCAA D3 Tournament

The NCAA released its pairings for the upcoming women’s Division 3 tournament this afternoon, which begins later this week. Six squads from Massachusetts earned spots in the tournament and will begin their quest toward Stevens Points, Wisconsin on Friday, March 7.

Below is a breakdown of each matchup, along with what teams they’ll be facing in the first or second round.

Regis College, which captured its second-straight NECC crown this past weekend, will travel to Montclair State for their first-round contest. If the Pride earns an opening round win, they’ll face the winner of Cabrini-Moravian.

Scranton, Pennsylvania will be the host site for Bridgewater State and Williams College. The Bears will take on Scranton, while the Ephs battle Vassar. The winner of each contest will meet in the second round on Saturday, March 8. Bridgewater State earned an automatic bid to the tournament following a MASCAC Championship win over Framingham State.

Tufts University, which claimed its first NESCAC crown yesterday by defeating Amherst College, will host the first and second rounds. The Jumbos will play St. Joe’s of Maine in the opening round, and of Tufts defeats the Monks, they’ll then take on the winner of University of New England vs. New York University.

Finally, Amherst and Springfield College will square off in the opening round at Hartwick. The Pride earned an automatic bid following yesterday’s win over Smith College in the NEWMAC Championship. The winner of Amherst-Springfield will take on the winner of Hartwick-Baruch.
