Mass. College Hoops: Bentley To Host NCAA D2 Women’s Basketball East Regional


Courtesy of the Bentley University sports information department, here’s this evening’s release about the Falcons’ women’s basketball team, which will host the East Regional, beginning on Friday, March 14. Assumption College and Stonehill College will also be competing in the Regional, too. Here’s the release:

WALTHAM, Mass. – Undefeated and number-one ranked Bentley University, after achieving a four-peat as Northeast-10 Conference champions Sunday afternoon, has been named the host of the 2014 NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball East Regional, which will be held this coming weekend. It’ll be the fourth straight year that the eight-team regional will be held at Bentley’s Dana Center.

Bentley is the number one seed and will take on eighth-seeded Bloomfield College (20-9), a first-time NCAA entrant, in the first round on Friday.

Bentley, which ran its record to 29-0 with a 99-76 win over Adelphi University in the NE-10 championship game, is one of three automatic qualifiers with the others being the University of District of Columbia, which captured the East Coast Conference, and Bloomfield, the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champion.

The at-large selections include four Northeast-10 teams: second-seeded Adelphi (22-7), fourth-seeded Stonehill College (18-9), sixth-seeded Assumption College (18-10) and seventh-seeded University of New Haven (18-9). Rounding out the field is third-seeded LIU Post (22-6) out of the ECC.

Play will get underway at noon Friday with LIU Post taking on Assumption and will continue with Adelphi facing New Haven for the third time at 2:30 pm.

Bentley, which will be seeking its third regional championship and Elite Eight berth in four years, and Bloomfield will launch the evening session at 6 pm. Capping the first-day action will be Stonehill taking on UDC.

The semifinals will be Saturday evening and the regional championship game will be Monday at 7 pm.

Bentley, which owns 12 regional titles since 1989, will be making its record 31st appearance in the NCAA tournament and its eighth straight.

The winner of the Regional will advance to the Elite Eight in Erie, Pa. March 25-28.
