BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College men’s lacrosse team won its first-ever GNAC crown this afternoon as the Saints defeated Becker College, 9-3.
With the win, the Saints advance to the NCAA Division 3 Tournament. The pairings for the upcoming tournament will be announced next Sunday, May 4.
Emmanuel’s Ryan Sabuda led the Saints with four points on four assists, while Tony Cibelli, Kaile Maclean-Daley and Chris Curtis each netted a pair.
David Deschenes paced Becker with three points on two helpers and one tally, and Daniel Johnson chipped in two strikes.
Becker’s Jeffrey Candee finished with seven stops, while Emmanuel’s Austin Lauzier turned away 10 of 13 shots.
Both teams swapped goals during the opening session, but Johnson provided the Hawks with its second and final lead after burying a shot on the far side of the Saints zone at 11:18.
Emmanuel would never trail again as Michael Rogers sparked an 8-0 run spanning the second, third and fourth quarters that provided the Saints with the lead for good.
The Saints, which won its initial GNAC regular season crown a week ago with an 8-7 win over Lasell College, will enjoy a few days off before they return to action in the second week of May.
