Mass. College Sports: Assumption Announces The Addition of Women’s Golf For 2015-16 Season

Assumption College’s athletic communication office announced today in a release that the department will be adding a women’s golf program for the 2015-16 academic year, as announced by director of athletics and recreation Nick Smith. We have attached this afternoon’s release below:

Worcester, Mass. (September 30) — Assumption College will be adding a women’s golf program for the 2015-2016 academic year, as announced by Nick Smith, director of athletics and recreation. The addition of women’s golf now brings the college’s total number of varsity athletic programs to 24, which is ranked second among Northeast-10 Conference institutions.

“We are excited about the addition of women’s golf to our varsity athletic programs beginning in the 2015-2016 season,” said Smith. “With 24 varsity sports, I feel like we offer one of the most comprehensive athletic programs in the Northeast-10 and the region and will continue to grow and improve as a whole.”

The addition of women’s golf marks the first varsity sport added at Assumption since the women’s swimming and diving program was established in 2007. In 2014, the Northeast-10 Conference has begun sponsoring a women’s golf championship as the two-day event will take place in April at Stonebridge Country Club in Goffstown, N.H. Assumption will become the sixth Northeast-10 Conference institution to sponsor women’s golf.

“We feel that being located in a strong golfing area in Central Mass. will be a major benefit to this program from a recruiting standpoint,” said Smith. “With 13 intercollegiate women’s sports offerings, including 12 that compete in the Northeast-10, I think we have positioned ourselves for increased success on the conference, regional and national level.”
