Mass. College Hockey: Tufts Featured In Boston Herald’s ‘In The Neighborhood’

By Matt Noonan

Happy Monday, everyone!

We kickoff the week with a Division III Hockey notebook from today’s Boston Herald, featuring the connection between Tufts University’s men’s ice hockey team and the town of Arlington.

Seven members of the Jumbos’ hockey team hails from Arlington – the neighboring town to Medford (Tufts’ home) – including head coach Brian Murphy and assistant coach Matt Keating. Shawn Power, Brian Ouellette, Aidan HartiganDan Kelly, and Luke Griffin are the five skaters from Arlington, and have combined for nine goals and seven assists.

“I grew up in Arlington. That’s where I played my youth hockey and it’s where I learned the game of hockey. I’m from the Menotomy Rocks Park section,’’ Murphy told the Herald. “All these kids played at various places but I feel I’m fortunate in that they do a great job in Arlington Youth Hockey. But, it’s certainly an interesting mix.’’

The Jumbos own a 5-8-1 mark and are 2-5-1 in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play. They recently fell to Amherst College (ranked 11th in the latest D3Hockey.com poll), 3-2, but will look to rebound on Friday, January 23 when the travel to Wesleyan University for a 7:00 p.m. face-off.
