Mass. College Hockey: Friday Night Roundup (Scores/Highlights)

Despite the cold temperatures and snowy conditions, Friday was a busy afternoon and evening in the Division III college hockey world. Below is a roundup of the local contests, including scores from around New England.

Men’s Ice Hockey Results:

No. 1 Norwich 6, No. 11 Babson 1 – Entering the third period with a one-goal lead, the Cadets ballooned their advantage with four tallies to secure a season-sweep of the Beavers. Tim Searles netted the Beavers’ lone goal at 7:52 in the second period. Jamie Murray – Babson’s netminder – turned away 29 of 34 shots.

No. 6 UMass Boston 6, St. Michael’s 5 (OT): Mike Miller potted the game-winning goal at 3:42 in overtime to lift the Beacons to their 20th win of the season – 15th in ECAC East play. Matt Lemire netted a pair of goals, while Dan Cornell, Tyler Bishop and Stephen Buco recorded two assists, respectively.

Middlebury 2, Williams 0: Evan Neugold and Ronald Fishman each lit the lamp for the Panthers as Middlebury skated past Williams in Vermont. The Ephs recorded 22 shots, including 10 during the final stanza, and goalie Sean Dougherty deflected 34 of 36 shots.

Women’s Ice Hockey Roundup:

No. 3 Middlebury 2, Williams 1: Maddie Winslow’s power play goal at 9:12 in the second period proved to be the difference as the Panthers defeated the Ephs in Williamstown. Eliza Noyes netted Williams’ lone goal at 7:31 in the second period.

Holy Cross 5, UMass Boston 0: Francesca Panarelli recorded one goal and two assists, Erin Hall registered one goal and one assist as the Crusaders defeated the Beacons in Boston.
