Mass. College Football: Casey, Ihlefeld, Talk Assumption Football (VIDEO)
After concluding last season with seven victories – the most wins in 20 seasons – the Assumption College football team is excited about its upcoming season, which begins Saturday, September 5 with a visit to Kutztown University (Pa.).
Last week, NoontimeSports.com traveled to Assumption’s campus to watch practice, but visit with co-captains Jarrod Casey and Kevin Ihlefeld, two members of the Greyhounds’ defense.
In 2014, Casey led the defensive unit with 89 total tackles (43 solo tackles) in 11 contests. He also registered three sacks, 10.5 tackles for a loss and three interceptions. Additionally, he recorded one forced fumble.
Ihlefeld concluded last season with 18 total tackles – 10 solo tackles – and a trio of tackles for a loss. He also recorded one sack for a 12-yard loss.
Assumption was picked to finish third in the Northeast-10 Conference, as noted in last week’s preseason coaches poll.
After the Greyhounds initial game of the season, they will travel to LIU Post on Saturday, September 12 for its initial conference contest. Assumption will play its first home game on Friday, September 18 when they host Merrimack College for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. Assumption concludes its first month of play with a ‘Family Weekend’ matinee against Pace on Saturday, September 26 with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
