It’s a big week for the Endicott College football team as the Gulls host undefeated Western New England tomorrow (Saturday, October 22) in a pivotal New England Football Conference (NEFC) clash.

“We will be playing a very good Western New England team this Saturday,” said Endicott head coach Kevin DeWall.

“Both teams are currently undefeated in conference play, so both teams have goals and aspirations of winning our conference and advancing to the NCAA Playoffs.”

Endicott enters the contest on three-game winning streak following a pair of road wins, including a victory last weekend at Maine Maritime Academy. Quarterback Joe Kalosky highlighted his team’s performance, tossing a career-best three touchdowns, while Lavante Wiggins rumbled for 65 yards on 11 carries and one score.

In addition to their win over the Mariners, Endicott also earned a pair of conference victories against Nichols College (37-0) and MIT (21-9).

“We have made some very good progress since day one, so the 3-0 start in conference play is exciting,” said DeWall. “It is also the standard and expectation we have set for our program. We know we have many areas that we still need to improve on, and the guys are eager to grow and develop together.”

Growth and development have been the keys to Endicott’s success this season, and despite losing a trio of non-conference games last month, DeWall believes those contests will help the Gulls remain competitive over the next few weeks.

“We did not fair as we wanted the past two years with a handful of young players in these non-conference games,” DeWall said, “but the experience has been great for our team.”

In addition to growth and development, DeWall has also seen numerous players – both upperclassmen and first-years – step-up when needed.

“There are many players who have stepped up their game (over) the last few weeks; too many to truly name,” said DeWall.

“The upperclassmen are now becoming more comfortable in their second year of our offensive and defensive schemes, and our first year players have had half a season to digest everything, and you can physically see them improve with each rep and each week of game experience.”

With players stepping up, while the team continues to grow and develop, you can bet DeWall’s crew will provide challenges, not just for Western New England, but their remaining conference foes.

“Here in our second year with this coaching staff taking over this program, we continue to teach the guys what it takes to improve and win each day, and there has been steady improvement throughout,” said DeWall.

“If our team has continues to grow and develop, we anticipate it will be an exciting game between two good teams (on Saturday).”
