Ah, a new year has arrived, which means we’re back to reporting about basketball, specifically in the Worcester area. So, to kick-off another year (2017, to be exact!), here is this week’s Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Honor Roll.

Men’s Player of the Week: Sean Doncaster (WPI | Sr. | Medford, Mass.): Doncaster led the Engineers to a pair of victories last week by stuffing the stat sheets with 31 points, 14 rebounds, 11 assists and four steals in victories over Keene State and Eastern Nazarene. With WPI trailing by a point with less than a minute to go against the Owls, the senior drained the go-ahead triple before ending the contest with 13 points and eight boards. He continued shine from the outside versus Eastern Nazarene, nailing all four of his trifectas against the Lions, while scoring 20 points, grabbing six rebounds and dishing out a game-high six assists.

Men’s Rookie of the Week: Cal Howes (Worcester State | Fr. | Maynard, Mass.): The first-year guard averaged 16 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in a 1-1 week for the Lancers. He scored 12 points in his team’s win over Sage before tallying 20 points in a 79-63 setback to Roger Williams.

Men’s Honor Roll:

Marcus Murray (Assumption | Sr. | Washington, D.C.): Murray had an impressive game for Assumption last Friday in a 70-68 loss to Molloy. The senior posted 19 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals while converting four of his six three-point attempts, as the Hounds nearly overcame an eight-point deficit in the final 40 seconds of regulation.

Kyle Credle (Becker | Sr. | Queens, N.Y.): Credle highlighted Becker’s come-from-behind victory over Gordon College last month, netting a game-high 24 points, while stuffing the stat sheet with seven caroms, four assists and three steals. Credle was clutch down the stretch, sinking a pair of free throws before drilling two triples and a jumper minutes later to help Becker defeat the Fighting Scots and enter the holiday break on a four-game winning streak.

Jaleel Bell (Fitchburg State | Sr. | Dorchester, Mass.): Bell netted 26 points on 10-of-17 shooting to go along with nine rebounds, eight assists and four steals in a 79-70 win over Brandeis University.
