WACBA Honor Roll (Women’s Basketball) Week Five

Ah, a new year has arrived, which means we’re back to reporting about basketball, specifically in the Worcester area. So, to kick-off another year (2017, to be exact!), here is this week’s Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Honor Roll.
Women’s Player of the Week: Ama Biney (WPI | Jr. | Worcester, Mass.): Biney capped her team’s two-day Holiday Tournament by earning her third Tournament MVP award of the season. She earned the accolade by averaging 17.5 points, nine rebounds, 4.5 blocks and 4.5 steals. In the championship contest against Wesleyan, Biney logged seven points and six rebounds, two assists and an impressive baseline swipe in just the fourth quarter. Including her team’s trip to Bates (Dec. 19th), Biney averaged 15.3 points, eight rebounds and 4.3 steals.
Women’s Rookie of the Week: Kyra Rose (Fitchburg State | Fr. | Rockland, Mass.): Rose registered a double-double of 20 points (7-for-15) and 11 rebounds to go along with three assists, one steal and two blocks in a 79-64 win over Nichols College.
Women’s Honor Roll:
Teneya McLaughlin (Assumption | Jr. | Milford, Conn.): McLaughlin was dominant last Thursday, helping Assumption push its lead as high as 26 over LIU Post in the fourth quarter en route to a 67-59 victory. The win marked Assumption’s seventh straight win. McLaughlin scored 16 points on 8 of 12 shooting, to go with five rebounds, four assists and one steal.
Michaela McTomney (Fitchburg State | Jr. | Bellingham, Mass.): McTomney registered a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds as well as four assists and one steal in a 79-64 win over Nichols College.
