Johnson & Wales Downs Lasell, Benton Earns 200th Win

The Johnson & Wales University men’s basketball team won its second-straight contest last night, defeating Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Lasell College, 83-69.

The win provided Coach Jamie Benton with his 200th win on the sideline.

As noted in last night’s release, Benton’s initial collegiate win came in 2004 when his Wildcats defeated the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 76-70.

13 years after an exciting first win, Benton has bumped his record to 200-144 overall. Last season, Benton guided the Wildcats on an exciting NCAA Tournament run, reaching the ’round of 16′ where they came-up short against Tufts University. The run was the furthest Benton has ever guided a Wildcats squad – he guided the 2010-11 unit to the second round of the national tournament.
