WORCESTER, Mass. – Another week of college basketball is in the books, which means it is time to dish out our Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WABCA) Women’s Honor Roll, including our Player and Rookie of the Week.
Women’s Player of the Week: Ama Biney (WPI | Jr. | Worcester, Mass.): Biney once again paced the Engineers in a 2-0 week by narrowly averaging a double-double of 11.5 points and eight rebounds. She had a week-high of 13 points versus Springfield and posted a double-double of 10 points and 10 boards at Emerson. Biney also doled out four assists each game, while recording seven swipes against the Lions. She averaged 4.5 steals for the week.
Women’s Rookie of the Week: Lauren Manis (Holy Cross | Fr. | Franklin, Mass.): Mannis registered a pair of double-doubles – her sixth and seventh, respectively – in a 1-1 week for the Crusaders. So far this season, she has netted double-figures in 16 games – she currently is averaging 12.7 points per game with 8.3 rebounds. Against American – a one-point (61-60) win for the Crusaders – she notched a career-best 14 caroms, while netting 19 points. For the week, she tallied 34 points, pulled down 26 rebounds and registered a quartet of swipes.
Women’s Honor Roll
Ciara McKissick (Becker | Soph. | Charlton, Mass.): McKissick continued her strong play this week, finishing with 11 points and eight rebounds in a tough loss at Mitchell on Saturday.
Cassidy Harrison (Becker | Fr. | Foxborough, Mass.): Harrison, who leads Becker in scoring, finished with 12 points, eight rebounds and four steals at Mitchell on Saturday.
Kyra Rose (Fitchburg State | Fr. | Rockland, Mass.): Rose averaged 14.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.3 blocks per game in three games for the Falcons. She collected a game-best 14 points, eight boards, five assists and three steals in a 67-27 win over Green Mountain on Monday before adding seven points, eight caroms, two assists and one block in a 62-38 setback to MCLA on Wednesday. Rose ended the week with a double-double of 23 points and ten rebounds to go along with four assists, four steals and three blocks in a 76-61 win against Salem State on Saturday.
Amy Assad (Nichols | Soph. | Millis, Mass.): Assad dropped in a career-high 22 points and snared 13 rebounds in a road win at Wentworth on Saturday. She was a perfect six-of-six from the line and registered two steals.
Britt Herring (Worcester State | Soph. | W. Brookfield, Mass.): Herring averaged 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in a 0-2 week for the Lancers. She picked up a game-high 14 points in the setback to Bridgewater State before notching 12 rebounds in a loss to Framingham State.
