A 62-27 win over Curry on Wednesday evening has the University of New England women’s basketball team on pace to pass Roger Williams for the top spot in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).
Coach Anthony Ewing‘s squad has gained some serious momentum over the past few weeks, winning 11-straight contests since falling to the Hawks in Rhode Island by a score of 58-51 last month.
The loss to the Hawks has fueled an amazing comeback by the Nor’Easters, who are now one game behind Roger Williams for the top spot in the conference.
If the CCC Tournament were to commence today, UNE would be the second seed and host Gordon College (the current seventh seed), while Roger Williams would be the top seed and entertain Salve Regina.
Both teams have three games remaining, so some serious scoreboard watching will be necessary to find out if the Nor’Easters will leapfrog the Hawks for the top seed or if Roger Williams will be able to hold on and finish the regular season in first place.
So, could UNE enter the conference tournament as the top seed? Sure, it is possible, but they’ll need to take care of business and get some help along the way. Either way, we’re in for a fun final few weeks of CCC basketball!
