Make it 11-straight wins for the Southern Vermont men’s basketball team as they defeated Becker College for the second time this season on Wednesday by a score of 97-78.

The win secures a season-sweep over Becker – the two teams met last year in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Tournament final with the Mountaineers earning the conference’s crown, along with an automatic qualifier to the 2016 NCAA Division III men’s basketball tournament.

Additionally, the victory provides Dan Engelstad‘s crew with a conference tournament home playoff game in a few weeks – the Mountaineers will host either a first-round or semifinal game, as noted in yesterday’s release.

Southern Vermont’s Rayshawn Taylor highlighted his team’s outing against the Hawks by netting his 1,000th point – he finished the contest with 19 points. Taylor is now the 11th student-athlete in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark.

“I could not be more proud of Rayshawn’s accomplishment and his development on, and off, the court,” Engelstad said via Wednesday’s game release. “He’s come a long way in his career at SVC. He’s one of the best scorers of the basketball in the country, and for him to do this in just three years is quite a feat. He’s playing basketball at a very high clip and has had arguably one of the better careers at Southern Vermont.”

Taylor and the Mountaineers are back in action Saturday, February 11 when they host Wheelock College on Senior Day.
