Amherst College and Tufts University secured the top two spots on Tuesday in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll.
The Mammoths checked-in first overall – Amherst is coming off a national championship victory over Tufts – while the Jumbos secured a second position. Amherst finished the 2016-17 season 33-0, while Tufts ended its campaign 30-3.
St. Thomas (Minnesota), Christopher Newport and Thomas More rounded out the top five.
Bowdoin College checked-in 23rd overall in the poll – the Polar Bears concluded last season with a 21-5 ledger. Rochester (New York) and Chicago were the final two teams to earn spots on the poll, checking in 24th and 25th, respectively.
In addition to a trio of New England teams appearing on the poll, a pair of Massachusetts teams earned votes, including UMass Dartmouth, which advanced to the elite eight last spring in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Babson College also received votes as well.
D3Hoops.com posted its preseason poll yesterday (Monday, Oct. 30th), which saw Tufts secure the top spot, while Amherst checked-in third. UMass Dartmouth checked-in 18th overall, while Bowdoin and Babson each received votes.
