WACBA Honor Roll: Men’s Basketball Week Two (Tuesday, Nov. 28th)

WORCESTER  With the second week of college basketball in the books, it is time to unveil the initial Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Men’s Basketball Honor Roll for the 2017-18 season, including our Player and Rookie of the Week honors.


Player of the Week: Samuel Durodola (Becker College | Sr. | Rosedale, N.Y.): Durodola demonstrated his inside dominance this past week in strong performances against both 7th ranked Babson and Western New England. First, against the Beavers, Durodola posted 22 points with nine rebounds with two blocks. Then, in a 72-68 win over Western New England, the senior posted 23 points and eight rebounds. For the week, Durodola shot 46.7 percent from the floor. As of press time, Durodola ranks second in the NECC in scoring at 21.3 points per game through four games.


Rookie of the Week: Matthew Kelly (Assumption | Fr. | North Potomac, Md.)Kelly averaged 15.0 points, 3.0 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in a 1-1 week. The freshman led the Hounds to a 79-70 victory with a career-high 21 points, including 13 in the second half while missing just a single shot as Assumption outscored Molloy by 12 in the period. He also dished off four assists in the game. In Kelly’s first action of the week he scored nine points with three steals and two assists in a loss to Bentley.

Honorable Mentions

Karl Charles (Holy Cross | Jr. | Roselle, N.J.): Totaled 17 points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals in the Fairleigh Dickinson game. Charles led the team with 16 points and two assists against Albany. He connected on 50.0 percent of his three-pointers and 80.0 percent of his free throws on the week.

Cal Howes (Worcester State | Soph. | Maynard, Mass.): The sophomore guard recorded 19 points in the Lancers’ 88-72 setback to WPI on Tuesday. He also collected three rebounds, two steals and one assist.
