WORCESTER – With the second week of college basketball in the books, it is time to unveil the initial Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Women’s Basketball Honor Roll for the 2017-18 season, including our Player and Rookie of the Week honors.
Player of the Week: Ama Biney (WPI | Sr. | Worcester, Mass.): As Biney became the 18th WPI women’s basketball player to reach the 1,000-point milestone on Saturday, the local product tallied her third career double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, to go with two blocks and a swipe as the Engineers defeated Bates 60-42. On Tuesday, Biney scored a game-best 22 points for the second consecutive game against Central Mass. opponents as WPI defeated Nichols, 60-33. She also racked up nine boards, six steals and four assists in Dudley.
Rookie of the Week: Colleen Cutting (Worcester State | Fr. | Auburn, Mass.): The rookie averaged seven points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in a 1-1 week for the Blue and Gold. She recorded four points and three rebounds in the setback to Western New England earlier in the week. On Sunday, she went a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor with two triples, totaling 10 points with four rebounds and two assists in the win over Wellesley.
Honorable Mention: Britt Herring (Worcester State | Jr. | West Brookfield, Mass.): The junior center averaged 11 points and 11.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Blue and Gold. She posted eight points and seven rebounds with an assist and block in the Lancers’ 67-54 setback to Western New England on Tuesday. She then marked a double-double of 14 points and 16 rebounds, going 7-for-8 from the field with four assists and four blocks in the Lancers’ 64-47 win over Wellesley.
