WACBA Honor Roll: Women’s Basketball Week Three (Tuesday, Dec. 5th)

WORCESTER  With the third week of college basketball in the books, it is time to unveil the initial Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Women’s Basketball Honor Roll for the 2017-18 season, including our Player and Rookie of the Week honors.


Women’s Player of the Week: Michaela McTomney (Fitchburg State | Sr. | Bellingham, Mass.): Averaged a double-double of 11.0 points and ten rebounds per contest as well as one block per game in three games for the Green and Gold. Collected 14 points, eight rebounds, one steal and three blocks in an 86-77 victory over Elms on Tuesday before adding six points, eight caroms and one steal in an 81-67 setback to UMass Boston on Thursday. Concluded the week with a double-double of 13 points and 14 boards to go along with two assists in a 77-76 setback to Dean on Saturday.


Women’s Rookie of the Week: Mikaela Mitchell (Fitchburg State | Fr. | Millbury, Mass.): Averaged 15.3 points, seven rebounds, two assists and 1.3 steals per game over three contests for the Falcons. Netted 16 points, seven boards, three assists and one steal in an 86-77 win over Elms on Tuesday before adding eight points, six caroms, one assist and one steal in an 81-67 setback to UMass Boston on Thursday. Polished off the week with a game-best 22 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 77-76 setback to Dean on Saturday.

Honorable Mentions

Lauren Manis (Holy Cross | Soph. | Franklin, Mass.): Manis recorded her third double-double of the season – 11th of her career – against Albany, while netting 20 points against Brown. Against the Bears, she connected on seven of 11 attempts, including both three-pointers, while recording six rebounds and two assists. On Sunday against Albany, she tallied 18 points and 12 rebounds, including 10 defensive caroms. For the week, she was 12 of 22 from the field, a perfect three-from-three beyond the arc and 11 of 15 from the charity stripe.

Amy Assad (Nichols | Jr. | Millis, Mass.): Amy Assad helped lead the Bison to a 2-1 mark this week, averaging 14.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. In a non-conference 78-44 win over Anna Maria, Assad scored 12 points and pulled in five rebounds to go with three assists and two steals in only 16 minutes of action. She followed that up with a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds in a 66-54 setback to Endicott. She wrapped up the week with her second-straight double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds in a 59-51 win over Gordon.

Britt Herring (Worcester State | Jr. | West Brookfield, Mass.): The junior center averaged 12.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks, and one assist per game in a 1-1 week for the Lancers. She put up a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds with three blocks in the Lancers’ setback to Connecticut College earlier in the week. On Sunday, Herring recorded 11 points with nine rebounds and four blocks in the road win over Gallaudet. Overall this week, she went 11-for-16 (68.8%) from the field.
