WORCESTER – With the fourth week of college basketball in the books, it is time to unveil the initial Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Women’s Basketball Honor Roll for the 2017-18 season, including our Player and Rookie of the Week honors.
Player of the Week: Infiniti Thomas-Waheed (Holy Cross | Sr. | Newton, Mass.): Thomas notched her 1,000th career point in her team’s 64-53 win over Vermont this past weekend, while also recording her second double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Additionally, she has now scored 20 points or more three times this season. Prior to her team’s victory against Vermont, she tallied 15 points, three caroms, two assists and one assist in 70-61 setback to Boston College. For the week, Thomas-Waheed recorded 39 points, including four trifectas, 13 rebounds, two steals and one assist.
Rookie of the Week: Mikaela Mitchell (Fitchburg State | Fr. | Millbury, Mass.): Mitchell averaged 7.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 1.3 steals per contest over three games for the Green and Gold. Registered a double-double of ten points and 11 boards to go along with two assists in a 94-80 setback to Mount Ida on Tuesday before adding four points, five caroms and one steal in a 69-61 loss to Suffolk on Thursday. Finished the week with eight points, three rebounds and three steals in a 63-57 setback to Curry on Saturday.
Kayla Odegaard (Anna Maria | Sr. | Milton, Mass): Odegaard scored a career high, 27 points, against Framingham State last week. She also added 8 rebounds for the AMCATS.
Morgan O’Donnell (Assumption College | Jr. | Easton, Mass.): O’Donnell came up big for Assumption in a 1-1 week, averaging 16.5 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 57.9 percent from the floor. The junior opened the week with 10 points, ten rebounds and two assists in a loss to Stonehill but followed it up with a career-high 24 points on 8 of 11 shooting in a 20-point win over Franklin Pierce. She added five rebounds and two blocks in the contest as well.
Cassidy Harrison (Becker College | Soph. | Foxborough, Mass.): Harrison averaged 10.5 points with 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals, while shooting 33 percent from behind the arc during a 1-1 week for the Hawks.
Ogechi Ezemma (Clark University | Jr. | Hope Valley, R.I.): Ezemma had a solid week for the Cougars with highlights on the defensive end. She averaged 14.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 2.0 steals per game. In a setback to conference foe Wheaton, Ezemma notched 16 pints while adding 10 boards and four steals. In a non-conference victory over Nichols, she tallied 13 points, nine boards and seven steals.
Angelina Marazzi (Fitchburg State | Soph. | Manchester, N.H.): Marazzi averaged 17.3 points, four rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game over three contests for the Green and Gold last week. She posted 22 points, seven rebounds, four assists and one steal in a 94-80 setback to Mount Ida on Tuesday before adding 19 points, three caroms, one assist and one steal in a 69-61 loss to Suffolk on Thursday. She concluded the week with 11 points, two boards, two assists and two steals in a 63-57 setback to Curry on Saturday.
Catherine Sweeney (Worcester State | Soph. | Lowell, Mass.): The sophomore guard put up double-double averages of 11.5 rebounds and 10 assists with 8.5 points per game in a 1-1 week for the Blue and Gold. She was one assist shy of a triple-double in the Lancers’ win over Nichols as she recorded 13 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists and six steals, while shooting 50% from the field. In the setback to Springfield, she managed to register her second double-double of the week with 12 rebounds and 11 assists.
