D3 Hoops: Sawyer’s Game-Winning Trey Sends Brandeis Past Bates, 76-73

For the Brandies University men’s basketball team, Sunday’s dramatic win over Bates College could be the start of an exciting second half to their 2017-18 season.
With less than a second remaining in the final session, Brandeis’ Colin Sawyer netted a game-winning triple with less than one second remaining to provide the visitors with an exciting 76-73 win.
The victory was the Judges’ third of the season and second in the month of December.
Bates, which dipped to 7-4 overall, was coming off an exciting 78-75 win on Friday over Babson College – the Bobcats did not need a game-winning trey to knock-off the defending champions, but instead a pair of freebies by Shawn Strickland with two seconds remaining.
Brandies led Bates, 32-23, at the break, but the Bobcats stormed back, outscoring the visitors overall thew final 20 minutes, 50-44.
Sawyer netted 12 points off the bench, including the game-winning three, while Lawrence Sabir and Chandler Jones netted 18 points, respectively. Tom Coyne of Bates led all players with 24 points – he was 10 of 20 from the field and three of nine from beyond the arc.
