WACBA Honor Roll: Women’s Basketball Week Five (Weds., Jan. 3rd)

WORCESTER  With another week of college basketball in the books, it is time to unveil this week’s Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Women’s Basketball Honor Roll, including our Player and Rookie of the Week honors.

Women’s Co-Player of the Week: Cassidy Harrison (Becker | So. | Foxborough, Mass.): Harrison scored a season-high 22 points in just 16 minutes as Becker moved to 3-0 in conference play with a 66-27 victory over Southern Vermont. Harrison shot four of five from behind the arc and five of seven from inside. The sophomore was also a force at the defensive end with six steals.

Women’s Co-Player of the Week: Ama Biney (WPI | Sr. | Worcester, Mass.): Biney averaged 14.8 points and 10 rebounds, 3.25 assists and 3.25 steals over four games. The senior scored 12 and swiped the ball seven times versus Wells. She then scored 17 and notched a career-high 14 rebounds against SUNY New Paltz after logging 17 and 10 versus Spalding nine days earlier. Biney ended the year with 13 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and a steal against Ramapo.

Women’s Rookie of the Week: Franchesca Hammond (Anna Maria | Fr. | Worcester, Mass.): The local product produced 11 points and two rebounds in a setback to undefeated Bowdoin last week.


Honor Roll

Kristina Russo (Anna Maria | Sr. | South Windsor, Conn.): Russo netted 14 points with 6 boards against Hunter College.

Morgan O’Donnell (Assumption | Jr. | Easton, Mass.): O’Donnell was solid for Assumption, averaging 14.7 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 blocks per game while shooting 56.0 percent as team went 1-2 over the holiday break. The junior posted 14 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks in a loss to AIC. She followed it up with 14 points, 11 rebounds and three assists in a three-point loss to LIU Post before her 16 points, 11 rebounds and four assists propelled Assumption to a 56-50 win over Molloy.

Brianna Hackett (Worcester St. | Sr. | Hollis, N.H.): The senior guard scored a team-high 13 points, going 3-for-5 (60%) from 3-point range, in the Lancers’ setback to Birmingham-Southern Thursday afternoon.
