WORCESTER – With another week of college basketball in the books, it is time to unveil this week’s Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Men’s Basketball Honor Roll, including our Player and Rookie of the Week honors.
Co-Men’s Player of the Week: Jerome Cunningham (Nichols College | Soph. | Westbury, N.Y.): Jerome Cunningham averaged a double-double in a 1-1 week for the Bison, posting 20.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 1.5 steals per game. Cunningham scored 14 points to go with 12 rebounds, an assist, two steals, and a block in an 86-71 win over Southern Maine. He followed that up with 26 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks in a 100-94 loss in overtime against Western New England. For the week, he shot 62.5% (10-of-16) from the field and 87% (20-of-23) at the charity stripe.
Co-Men’s Player of the Week: Mike Rapoza (Anna Maria | Soph. | Charlton, Mass): Rapoza scored a career-high 27 points, which grabbing 15 rebounds against Lasell last Wednesday. On Saturday, against Johnson & Wales, Rapoza netted 17 points and pulled down 14 boards. He has now recorded nine double-doubles of the season.
Men’s Rookie of the Week: Austin Butler (Holy Cross | Fr. | Latrobe, Pa.): Butler led the team with a career-high 22 points, five rebounds and two assists at Lehigh. He also recorded seven points, three rebounds and two assists at Lafayette. For the week, he averaged 14.5 points.
Men’s Honor Roll
Patrick Fleming (Assumption College |Soph. | Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. ): Fleming was all over the court for Assumption last week, averaging 9.6 points, 10.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists with just two total turnovers while shooting 50.0 percent from the floor. The sophomore posted nine points, eight boards and four assists in a 10-point win over Adelphi before registering a double-double of 10 points, 12 boards and five assists in an eight-point loss to New Haven.
Jonathan Perez (Fitchburg State | Jr. | Lowell, Mass.): Perez averaged 18.5 points, four rebounds, 0.5 assists and 0.5 steals per contest in a 1-1 week for the Falcons. He netted a team-best 24 points and three rebounds in a 73-70 setback to Brandeis on Wednesday before adding 13 points, five boards, one assist and one steal in a 74-52 win over Framingham State on Saturday.
Jehyve Floyd (Holy Cross | Jr. | Sayreville, N.J.): Floyd totaled a career-high 16 points, eight rebounds, a career-best four blocks and two assists at Lehigh. He also had 10 points and five rebounds at Lafayette. He hit 13 of 16 field goal attempts on the week (81.3 percent), while averaging 13.0 points and 6.5 rebounds.
Will Watkins, Jr. (Worcester State | So.| Southbridge, Mass.): Worcester State’s scoring was led by Will Watkins Jr., who had 23 points in the Lancers’ 104-92 setback to Salem State on Saturday. He went 10-for-17 (58.8%) from the floor and 3-for-8 (37.5%) from 3-point range. He also collected six rebounds, and two steals in the setback.
