WACBA Honor Roll: Women’s Basketball Week Six (Tues. Jan. 9th)

WORCESTER  With another week of college basketball in the books, it is time to unveil this week’s Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Women’s Basketball Honor Roll, including our Player and Rookie of the Week honors.


Women’s Player of the Week: Britt Herring (Worcester State | Jr. | West Brookfield, Mass.): The junior center averaged double-double figures of 16.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week for the Blue and Gold. She had a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds with two assists and three blocks in the win over Keene State, and then registered another double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds with two assists and three blocks in the MASCAC setback to Salem State. Overall this week, she shot 47.8% from the field and 91.7% from the charity stripe.

Women’s Rookie of the Week: Sam Maglione (Worcester State | Fr. | Lancaster, Mass.): The freshman guard averaged 12.5 points in a 1-1 week for the Blue and Gold. She matched a career-high 14 points, going 4-for-5 from beyond the arc in the win over Keene State, and then collected 11 points on three triples and a layup in the MASCAC setback to Salem State on Saturday. Overall this week, she shot 60% from the field, and 63.6% from 3-point range.

Women’s Honor Roll:

Kiera O’Donnell (Assumption College | Sr. | Cheshire, Conn.): O’Donnell was solid for the Hounds in a 1-1 week, averaging 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds on 50.0 percent shooting. The junior posted 17 points, nine rebounds and two assists in an eight-point loss to Adelphi before coming through with 16 points, eight boards and one steal in a 58-44 over New Haven. She also went 6-for-10 from downtown over the two contests to bump her three-point percentage to 44.4 percent for the year.

Angelina Marazzi (Fitchburg State | Soph. | Manchester, N.H.): Marazzi posted a team-leading 16 points, four rebounds and two steals in an 88-49 setback to Framingham State University on Saturday afternoon in the Falcons lone contest of the week.​​

Lauren Manis (Holy Cross | Soph. | Franklin, Mass.): Manis averaged 22 points and seven rebounds, while connecting on eight of 10 freebies, including all four free throws against Lehigh in a pair of games last week for the Crusaders. Additionally, Manis averaged 3.0 steals and 1.5 blocks per game, too. She began the New Year with 26 points and six caroms (four defensive, two offensive) against Lafayatte before netting 18 points against Leghigh.

Jessica Larsh (Nichols College | Soph. | Bolton, Conn.): Larsh helped lead the Bison to a 1-1 mark last week by averaging 18.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. The sophomore scored 18 points to go with three rebounds, three assists, and three steals in a 75-50 win over St. Joseph (Conn.). She followed that up with 19 points, including a perfect 10-for-10 at the free throw line, three rebounds, two assists, and a steal in a 64-53 setback to Western New England. For the week, she shot 42.3% (11-of-26) from the field, 50% (3-of-6) from beyond the arc, and 75% (12-of-16) at the charity stripe.

Ama Biney (WPI | Sr. | Worcester, Mass.): Biney averaged 15 points and 6.5 rebounds with seven steals and four assists as the Engineers began their NEWMAC slate 2-0. The senior narrowly missed a double-double Wednesday with 12 points and nine rebounds versus Springfield before leading the way with 18 points and five steals, as well as four assists at Wheaton on Saturday afternoon.
